RACESAVER® SPRINT  SERIES
2008 Rules
Regionally Affiliated RACESAVER®  Groups:
Virginia Sprint Series, PA 305 Sprints,  Renegade Sprint Series
Sprint Series of Texas , CRSA, West Texas Sprint Series,
Southern Thunder Sprints
The  RACESAVER®  Sprint Series sanctions regional groups who utilize the  RACESAVER®  Spec rules. We maintain a master technical file on every  RACESAVER® 305 Spec head. This supports each regions technical staff, enabling common rules compliance throughout the series. 2008 will mark the 10th 305 Nationals (sm) running under the RACESAVER® Sprint Series sanction.
The  RACESAVER® Sprint Series encourages affordable Sprint Car Racing. A competent race car, utilizing a 1 year old rolling chassis and a new engine can be on the track for around $10,000. The engine operates in the 6500 rpm range and produces 400 to 425 hp. It can utilize lower cost components and still have excellent durability. Most of these engines race 3 or more seasons without an overhaul.
Since it is impossible to prevent racers from spending money,  RACESAVER®  rules prevent money from buying a significant advantage. These nationally proven rules are the result of considerable research and 12 successful years of racing. The RACESAVER®  305 Spec head, made to our specifications is the foundation of our rules. We keep gauged, inspected and serial numbered heads in stock. Twelve years of hard racing, and over a 7000 dyno pulls, have proved the  RACESAVER®  engine rules beyond any doubt. All engines must be sealed before they are allowed to compete. The engine must be drilled for sealing wire on: 2 adjacent cylinder head bolts on each head, 2 intake bolts, and 2 timing cover bolts. All logo and trademark stamps must be intact at time of inspection.
History:
In the fall of 1996 Bill Rice, Mike Williams, and French Grimes laid the ground work for what evolved into the Virginia Sprint Series. The Virginia Sprint Series  pioneered the RACESAVER® Sprint Series banner.
1998   PA 305 Sprints founded by Gerald Reinhart and Tom Worrick.
2002  Renegade Sprint Series founded by Ken McDaniel of Avenger Chassis.
2004 Smiley Sitton founded  Sprint Series of Texas
2006 CRSA founded by Brian Grisel,
2008 West Texas Sprint Series   Walter Crum
2008 Southern Thunder Sprints   Brad Hawkins
Competition Objectives:
This is recreational racing. Cost containment is our primary objective. Respect, for competitors, fans, and promoters, is fundamental to our success. We will do what is necessary to produce a good competitive show each night. We will not tolerate overtly aggressive driving. The willingness to give racing room is a defining aspect of  RACESAVER® Sprint Series races.

COMPETITION RULES

  1. Top 5 cars must go to weigh if you fail to go to weigh station you will get paid for last place only. 1 crew member with car at weigh station. No crew members at the car. No exchanges or working on car till after weighed. Cars that report to their pit or are otherwise unsupervised before being weighed are subject to disqualification.
  2. Respect for your fellow competitor continues to be a priority in the series. Since it’s inception the series has strived to encourage respect among teams on and off the track. As the series has grown it gets continually more difficult to have enough individuals and volunteers to enforce specific issues on any given night. Driving issues continue to be an issue among teams.

Beginning in 2007 the competition committee will no longer shoulder the burden of watching for driving issues. Racers are invited to approach committee members with concerns after each event, the committee will make note of these issues. Each week prior to competition drivers and owners (only) will be invited to voice their concerns, Committee members will also report on any issues from the prior week along with any observations from committee members. It is recommended that each driver air their concerns in a respectful manner so that issues can be addressed. If any specific driver continues to be an issue the competition committee will assess the appropriate penalty.
  3. Due to this rule change, attendance at the drivers meeting is MANDATORY. If any driver is not at the meeting they will start on the rear of their heat. Missing drivers must be announced by someone at the meeting or they will be considered in attendance competition committee members will rotate the responsibility of hosting the drivers meetings.
  4. Fighting will not be tolerated and will result in immediate disqualification from all remaining Pa 305 Sanctioned events for entire team/teams involved. Do not leave your pit or car to confront another team notify one of the 305 reps and the problem will be taken care of. If you leave your pit to confront another team or person you will be suspended for 2 weeks, with no exceptions. Drivers and owners are also responsible for crewmembers.

HOST TRACK GENERAL AND SAFETY RULES APPLY.

HANDICAPPING
Starting positions are established by a pill draw which is forwarded to the handicapper at the track. The track will prepare the lineup from the pill draw and also establishes the inversion for the feature based on their normal practice. The track also establishes the itinerary for the event based on the particular agreement signed by the track. Tracks are informed that full purse is always paid regardless of attendance but the series cannot guarantee payment. Some tracks negotiate alternate purses; we make every attempt to make agreements available to teams via our web site.
Active Teams

  • Racing in the series is by invitation; the series maintains an active roster which is made available for tracks and updated on the web site each week. Teams on the active roster are invited to race at any event on the PA305 Schedule
  • Hesston and Path Valley give us a regular schedule of races and allow for special events usually totaling around 40 races within Pennsylvania. The series is intended for recreational racers that support this schedule. If you would like to race your 305 car outside of the state at a special event you should check with the competition committee. Generally permission will be granted on the following basis, The Committee will address on an individual basis.
    • Running a Racesaver sanctioned event outside PA with permission will result in no handicapping.
    • 305 Non-racesaver events outside the state - on a scheduled night will result in 2 weeks starting at the rear. On an un-scheduled night no handicapping.
    • Racing in another (not 305 sprint) division on a scheduled night will be handicapped to the rear of the heat for 2 weeks otherwise no handicapping.
  • Active teams that race outside the series without first contacting the committee will be removed from the active roster and will fall into the part time category below

Part Time Participants

  • Teams from other Racesaver Series and Teams with PA sealed motors that are not on the active list will be considered part-time. If you race your 305 outside the series at any other track you should contact the competition committee to establish your status before attending any race. Part-time competitors are invited to attend on a race by race basis.
  • At Special events – Part-time competitors will start at the rear of the heat race. At Regular events – Part-time competitors Start at the rear of the heat race and will not start ahead of previous winner at that track.
  • Racers from other Tracks or Series should always contact us first before attending to be sure your seals will be accepted

Rookies and new teams

  • In order to assure that any new team understands the series objectives and rules new teams are required to receive a copy of the complete rules package from a competition committee member and return a signed copy before purchasing any equipment. Drivers must be 16 years old regardless of individual track guidelines.
  • Rookies will start at rear of qualifying events and features for a minimum of 3 races or till competition committee feels they are ready to start up front. If you did not compete with the series in the previous year you are subject to Rookie consideration.
  • It is important that every participant read and understand these rules completely. Owning heads or even a sealed motor does not guarantee participation. If you have ANY questions regarding these rules you are encouraged to contact the series coordinator.
  • Beginning in 2005 Yellow tape will be used to identify cars that will start on the rear of heats (for any reason) drivers are responsible to tag the rear regardless of officials indications. If you do not go to the rear you will be disqualified.

Series Outline & Objective
The pa305sprint series is an organizational entity of racers established and committed to fun fair and safe racing. The series was established in1998 by a core group of racers from Hesston and Path Valley Speedways who chose to adopt theRacesaver® sprint racing standards established by French Grimes and the Virginia Sprint Series.
The Racesaver® standard was adopted with the intention of providing affordable racing for participants without high cost of ownership or maintenance.  Accordingly, the series is committed to a purse structure which allows for all teams to be reimbursed fairly for competition while not paying significantly more to any position.  An affordable purse also ensures that the series will remain a viable & affordable option for the speedways that host the series on a regular basis.
The PA305 Sprint series also believes the Racesaver® series represents “recreational racing” which commands respect for each competitor and their equipment. The series will not tolerate anyaggressive driving. The willingness to give racing room is a defining aspect of pa 305 sprint series races. The combination of fair rules and affordable racing gives every team an equal opportunity to win on any given night. History has proven that racers that concentrate on chassis setup and smooth driving will win races. Recreational racing also means that teams should compete as much as they want without expectation to attend. Drivers aren’t expected to miss family events etc. to race. There are no provisions to handicap 305 racers that only attend periodically.
The series is NOT a club; racing with the series is by invitation Teams that race only with our series and are in good standing will be given preference for their support. Only teams that agree with this series objective and rules should plan to purchase cars or motors. New teams are required to receive a copy of the complete rules page from a competition committee member and return a signed copy before purchasing any equipment.
Teams that race at other tracks in other divisions will be considered part time and should contact the series prior to attending. Teams that race in other Racesaver regional series may also race with us if invited but should arrange this with their regional director to be sure your region is in good standing with ours.
The Organization is managed by a competition committee comprised of founding members and volunteers that have given considerable time to help manage the series. The competition committee was originally established and approved by Hesston and Path Valley Speedways when the series started. Hesston and Path Valley continue to be the home tracks for the series and this is not expected to change.
Hesston and Path Valley establish a regular schedule for the series and permit a number of special events away from these home tracks to give teams some variety and the ability to travel. The series expect to continue having special races but new teams need to understand there is no desire to grow the series outside the region. Special races are arranged and approved by the Series Director only. Occasionally teams will be “polled” to measure interest in special dates but the final decision must be made by the committee.
Speedways that schedule races with the series have agreed to host the series with the understanding that they will be handicapping and paying competitors. The competition committee is responsible for enforcing the rules listed here and speedways have agreed to stand by any disqualifications and/or suspensions/penalties the competition committee assesses.
Competitors must comply with any rules specifically implied by the speedways such as age limits or conduct on or off the track and specific safety requirements. Please contact the individual speedway for clarification of these issues. If you are unsure who to contact with a specific question see a member of the committee.

Finally, competitors who join the series should understand that it is not foreseen that these rules or objectives will be changed significantly from year to year. Change usually means extra costs to competitors. The only changes in the rules will be to clarify existing rules or address new technologies.
